"I would 150% DEFINITELY recommend this program. It was an amazing program in that I got to see a lot of disorders I would never see in the States. Also the city was amazing, and it was easy to get around. I loved the program and the coordinators. Well organized!"
-Sana Hashmi, March 2008 (Pre-Med Senior, University of Goergia)

Participate in community healthcare services and learn about the healthcare challenges facing coastal and tropical Mumbai (Bombay), India. Students attending this program will be able to rotate at some of the biggest infectious disease hospitals in India and see a variety of pathologies that they may never get the opportunity to see at home. The program combines clinical work at government hospitals with rotations in small primary care clinics and an opportunity to work in a rural area just outside the city. This program offers a holistic overview of the health care system of India with an emphasis on infectious disease.

Students gain first-hand clinical exposure to different healthcare issues,  particularly infectious diseases and their treatments in both urban and rural settings. Students will see common infectious and tropical diseases such as leprosy, TB, malaria, leishmaniasis, and dengue fever during their clinical rotations. Participants may have a chance to also witness the manifestation of HIV/AIDS in patients throughout the region. Students will also be provided with the opportunity to have discussions with medical professionals on the health care system of India and common diseases such as malaria, leishmaniasis, TB and dengue fever, which will complement participants' clinical immersion in hospitals in and around Mumbai.

CFHI programs offer participants the opportunity to learn more about health issues that transcend national borders, class, ethnicity, and cultural divisions.  By participating in CFHI’s global health education you will gain a unique insight into healthcare systems of developing countries and increase your cultural competency. Increasing one's awareness of other cultures (cultural competency) is becoming increasingly relevant for healthcare professionals as industrialized countries become more ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse. Click here to read an article and learn more about why cultural competency is important for today’s healthcare workforce.
